England manager Gareth Southgate on Phil Foden's position: "Anthony (Gordon) has obviously missed the last game with an injury, so that’s part of it.
"Phil has played off the right and left, but the key is where he ends up not his starting position. At City, he’s able to drift and it’s the same as us. Jude has played all season as a number 10 and sometimes, has defended on the left. It’s all about where they end up.
"We don’t pin players to a touchline, that’s not how we work. You want Phil in those central areas. It’s obvious how brilliant Phil’s season has been, he’s stepped up in big games, not only when big players are missing but when playing alongside them too."
England manager Gareth Southgate on squad positions: "I wouldn’t be obsessed with the positions because they can move, I wish it was just forwards and backs.
"I don’t know where we need to cut. If we picked tomorrow, we could have a dozen defenders because we don’t know where we’re at. In a couple of weeks, we will be in a better position with that. There’s a lot to think about over the next couple of weeks.
"I’d love it to be cleaner than it is, but that’s not the situation we’re in."
