Our lab had to have a piece of rabbit bone picked out of his arse last year. Which he’d inhaled when we were out for a walk. 900 quid luckily was covered by insurance. It’s always the worry though that they won’t pay.

I meant inhaled as in he found a dead rabbit and ate as much as it as he could before I could get to him.

My dog ate a whole rabbit full of maggots on a walk and then came home and vomited it up in the living room.

Barney remains boss. He's all jabbed up and out on walks now, he is very well behaved too.

Found out last night our lab has cancer. Very aggressive as well. Best case with treatment probably 6 to 8 months but if it’s even more severe then we could be taking weeks if not days. He’s only 3 and a half.

    Absolutely gutted.

Nothing really initially. Upset stomach and he seemed to be very stiff when he was walking. Had a week on painkillers but as soon as he came off them he was back to how he was, took him to the vets. Ran some blood tests vet said it could be something serious but was talking about manageable diseases and then when the test came back said it was cancer. But, can see he has already lost a lot of weight this week.

Got him back from the specialist vets today. Starts chemo on Monday but we have specifically said we only want to treat him whilst he is not in pain. If we don't see improvement we will looking to do what is best for him.

What this has taught me is that 6k doesn't go far at the vets. If you have a pet get them insured through Pet Plan no matter how expensive it seems.

My boy is still going which based on how things looked last Thursday/Friday feels like a bit of a miracle. He had chemo on Monday and we have said we will do it whilst he has some form of quality of life, so us being able to take him for a 15/20 minute walk in the morning, him being able to play in the garden and him having the energy to do the things you would expect a dog to do. If the chemo seems to make him to ill to do those things then we won't continue with it.

Still won't be long though I wouldn't imagine and although it's not necessarily a cost thing for us. The fact that it costs £609 a week just to treat him is mind blowing.

How much of the £609 p/w does the insurance cover?

It must be awful knowing you've got a horrendous decision to make soon.

The money vets are able to extort out of people to keep their defective animals running never ceases to amaze me.

My former cleaner's rabbit was on some sort of course of hydrotherapy recently.

Based on what's been spent so far will cover next weeks session. Then I am going to have to start paying myself. Which I will do as I don't think it's going to be long term. If he lived for another 8/9 months then I would be in a position whereby I would have to think about what to do.

You can Google 'Dick White Referrals' which is where we have to go and then decide if there's not that much money in it.
