It should at least be distinct from the actual race so a reverse grid would be preferable to just running the first stint like they do now. Not preferable to binning it entirely but they aren't going to do that.

It is practically distinct from the actual race now is it not? Other than the tyre allocation I guess.
Turn it into a Sprint Championship minus the top three teams or something. Gives the bottom end of the grid more to fight for.
'Fans', well the sort Liberty want, only really care about the top 3 teams, so that's probably a non-starter.
You could have an exhibition sprint cup separate to the main championship, and allow teams to field other drivers in it if they wish. Hard with cost cutting and parc fermé rules though.
Aye, get the test drivers in for the big teams. Gives them some actual racing experience with the cars.
F1 showing Stroll crossing the line in 16th place after another ordinary lap in the sprint quali and immediately cutting to show Felipe Drugovich watching on from the garage is quite naughty. Must be one of those pesky Brits at the controls.
I am truly baffled by these people's inability to drive within a white line. I know they only had one practice session but these guys are meant to be the best in the world.
They did change the track from yesterday tbf
Blame the wind, ay they. Remove the kerbs and just put a gravel trap or a cliff edge.
A moat filled with tree sap.
Do I once remember a suggestion of sandpaper-like material lining the other side of kerbs in order to ruin the tyres of offenders? Seems like that one will have come from the same box of ideas as Bernies sprinklers.
The sprinklers idea is even more mad now that they're afraid to let them drive in drizzle.
I love all the mad suggestions around track limits as if it wasn't a solved problem and has been for decades.
It's a solved problem if you drive between the white lines, these guys just aren't willing to make any compromises to do so. It's a bit like those football teams who continue to play out from the back even when 6-1 down.
It is solved by grass and bothering to police it, which you can see on any vaguely professional track day. As silly as it makes some of the drivers look I'm quite glad they've at least started to define the track by the white line (mostly), the problem will be when a new race director comes in and it's no longer flavour of the month.
Do they put a full safety car out for literally every incident now?
Yep, and run it for 25% of the race.
Piastri's engineer should probably be more concerned at what's coming from behind them rather than 'the race coming to them'.
World champion Max. What a guy.
Be lucky to have 10 cars finish this race tomorrow if this sprint is anything to go by
For a waste of time, that was decent enough fare.
Mclaren. Let’s goooooo
The sprints that I've seen this year have been quite good due to tyre offsets and whatnot, but we really need to have a system where laps behind the safety car aren't lost in such a short race, they must have done nearly half of that behind it. 4 or 5 laps to clear the cars was crimous.
Lando about to cry. He has no saw all his full time team mates win races.
Leclerc out of the points after a post-sprint 5 second penalty for track limits. Strulovitch also picked one up but lol at the thought of him in the points in the first place.
I might actually lose it if people start saying Oscar Piastri has won a race.
Lights out at Mt Panorama at 1.15am uk time by the way, I'm presume we're all staying up for that one.
I shall try one of these: https://old.reddit.com/r/motorsports...ount_panorama/
Otherwise it'll be up here in parts by tomorrow: https://burningwhee1s.blogspot.com/2...-bathurst.html
Hang on a sec.
So thats like a minimum three stopper. Four or five for the teams who burned through all their new sets in quali.
Have we ever seen a mandatory limit on tyres before?
Mclaren 1/2 if someone wipes Verstappen out on the first corner
@Adramelch
Unacceptable decision unless they're providing teams with more tyres.
Why are they doing that? Is deg out of control on the track surface?
On F1 and Gran Turismo games, it makes some great racing when you are forced to use all three tyre choices. We all know how accurate and realistic computer games are.
The softs heavily degraded like 10 laps into the sprint yesterday, half of which were under safety car, no?
Yeah I'm not sure why they would impose a hard rule on it. Safety is nice and all, but it will by default homogenize the race.
It smacks of Pirelli not wanting to get sued, or similar.
Finally found something that can damaged a Merc. Another Merc.
Mercedes
Easy double podium for McLaren now
A good old Mercedes special that.
This has been waiting to happen for a long time. Bring it on.
Any danger of a replay lads?
Edit: Russell useless gimp again.
The most entertaining thing that can happen this weekend is them two going for each other.
