Are we allowed to discuss this here?

    Sure, why not?

Obviously linking to streaming services won't be allowed.

Does it even matter any more? We're a tiny speck in the vast internet ocean that no one really knows about. It's not like we're a reputable site with affiliations to an actual computer game now.

Phoenix, Vdubt25, Genesis, UK Turk (used to be good, dunno about now).

There's so many though, once you've got SuperRepo and Metalkettle it's more about working out what you want from Kodi.

I added Sports Donkey the other week as I was having issued with vdubt and Phoenix.

Ian, its described as 'Kodi™ media center, formerly known as XBMC™ Media Center, is an award-winning free and open source cross-platform software media player and entertainment hub for digital media for HTPCs (Home theater PCs).'

Basically allows you to stream to most devices. I use it on my Fire TV in the pool/game room.

Even if you don't want to stream, it's a beast if you have a big hard drive video library.

I installed xbmc on my PC once and I've an Android TV box with it installed on it, and for the life of me I could never figure out what it is and what you're supposed to do with it.

Once you've setup NZBs with SAB, Sickbeard and Couchpotato on your Kodi and then setup an FTP server you've won the internet.

Yeah, you see that means just random letters to me. I need a guide, if such a thing exists, that starts by explaining what it does. All I know is people can look at illegal stuff on it, that's as far as my knowledge goes.

Too much effort. I think I can live without it until such a day I can find a step-by-step.

The Android box was removed when I got my Nexus Player anyway and I don't think you can put it on that.

Is it the usual grainy matchbox sized stuff with floating ads or really quality stuff?

EDIT: Though it seems it will go on the box I have http://kodi.wiki/view/Google_Nexus_Player

I just installed it and had a play around with it on my PC there. Seems a right faff when I can just google whatever programme I want and find it easily enough. I suppose it's a bit more handy on a TV though.

I've always liked the sound of stuff like that, and almost purchased a Raspberry Pi when they first caught on, but I'm happy just downloading stuff and streaming it to my 360 with Serviio.

    How does it help there?

And what does my tv need to have for me to be able to stream to it?

Would a Chromecast work? I know little of Kodi but it let's you stream most other things to the TV.

It might, but actually I'm not sure what benefit this would bring me anyway as I have all my media on external drives that plug straight into my tv.

Seemingly so, though nobody has answered yet on whether it's like watching through a sandstorm.

    Essentially.

As for quality it depends, like anything else, the quality of the stream you find. I have found vdubt to be good for streams.

What do you all use to stream football? PM if necessary. I don't mind if it's subscription-based too, upto ~£10 per month.

I find a decent quality one on the subreddit, I don't think I'd use it enough to warrant getting my head round it and setting it up.

A quick 5-10 min search through add one and you find a high quality stream with English commentary. TV/Movies are the same, torrent quality.

That's it, it's basically a high end aggregator of streams. That makes it sound shit but it's the freedom of just surfing through and finding something rather than just searchi specifically for things.

As above, you don't need to download individual films or episodes or find football streams.

I've cracked it today with @Samadini help and I can't recommend it highly enough.

You can get it loaded on Amazon fire sticks.

To put it simply it turns your folders into your own little Netflix. As long as the file naming format is decent, Kodi will fetch metadata and art and make things more pleasant. It's not a game changer. but I like it a lot. It's very easily customized and turns the normal directory layout into something like this:

    Toggle Spoiler

    or

    Toggle Spoiler

One key benefit is being able to control it all on a smartphone with a really good app, which lets you either browse the libraries on your monitor as normal, or do it all from within you phone with a similar layout.

To get it streaming on your TV, you'll need something like a Chromecast (I use a Raspberry Pi), then it's just a case of downloading apps.

As for the quality, I watch the main games of the day in HD every week. I don't really watch much TV so not much of a clue on that front, but if you download Genesis you will have HD streams to pretty much any TV show the day after it's aired, if watching it live isn't required.

Are those streams actually in HD? Like at least 720p? I've heard loads of people who don't really know much about computers banging on about their amazon fire sticks with all this crap on claiming they're in HD and everything but I doubt they actually are in proper HD given how hard it is to find a stream online that actually runs smoothly never mind is actually HD and does so.

Just tried it again and most films had Chinese subtitles coded to the film. I am not exactly a "hacker" but far from being clueless. I may be doing something extremely wrong but user friendly this is definitely NOT!

Download films/TV, get Plex, set up the media server (a chimp could do it), watch your film/shows anywhere in the world on an internet device.

And just use shitty streams for sports, simple.

Oh and Plex is completely free (unless you want to use it on a games console in which case it's £3.99 a month).

Downloaded when Showbox was down. Didn't have a clue how to set it up. Lucky Showbox is back up which also streams movies/TV shows in HD and to chromecast/Apple TV etc

Nothing was showing up on Phoenix under live sports but I've used some Dutchie channel thing and found the game.

Not too shabby for PC streaming sports.
