Oh well, 100 quid down the drain twice. Easy come, easy go.
Oh well, 100 quid down the drain twice. Easy come, easy go.
I've been reading every post in this thread with great interest, desperately wanting to post but keeping silent to see if the entertainment continued. Did anyone actually understand the posts and jargon Mell was posting? I'm not a day-trader (I'm just hfswjyr), but I did grow up around stocks and hell if I knew what he was saying.
The level of blind trust of people on the forum is amazing. I was really keen to see who would be in for a 3rd time but it seems the sceptics have publicly called it out this time.
I don't actually think he stole the money, btw. Just that it would make for some hilarious Daily Mail headlines if he did.
If it was a scam the whole time, what I couldn't understand was why he would continue posting for the 2nd time. The only conclusion I could come to is it set up a potential 3rd run.
Who am I to say, maybe it was all legit. I don't have the willpower to research enough to find out. Either way, it was highly entertaining (regardless of if you had a stake in it).
I don't think it was a scam, but if it was then it's pretty much the perfect crime. People on here have come back from worse setbacks to their reputation as well.
There must be millions of day-traders in the world who do this for a living who haven't come up with the magic formula to turn $10K into $1M in a matter of weeks. But Mell maintains it's doable. And maybe he really thought it was, and still is.
edit* to be honest I did also think about putting money in the first time around. And I'd still rather go in on this kind of scheme (FOMO) than buy a lottery ticket.

If it was certain users I would think it a scam, but Mellin's whole involvement with THE GROUP etc makes me doubt that. Unless they're all in on it and divvying out the proceeds.
Unrelated, the group are all meeting in Monaco this year.
Mellin probably knows more about the technical side of things than the rest of us put together, so if you think it's possible to make shitloads from trading on technicals (it must be) then it was worth a punt. I also stuck £500 in fwiw, Yev.
It seems the reason there was no stop loss is that he got fucked by a sudden change before he'd fully bought in, so he hadn't put a stop loss in since the bidding wasn't finished.
It's also bound to be hard as fuck (and only going to get harder) trading against bots, so the next chapter should rightly be TTH Bot: Baztion of Hope.
I’d watch the live stream of Bazbot. Sounds interesting. Is it legal to use a bot for trading?
Yes over 90% of trades are done by bots iirc. One time the entire stock market dropped 2% because bots found a tweet that said Obama had been assassinated.
Had a thought. The only reason I don’t think it was a scam and he legit lost the money is he would have tried harder to sell the idea he was actually doing stuff.
Can't imagine there's much you could do about it though.
If you gave someone the keys to the account and they took all the money out that's your own fault, surely?

Well other than go round their house and bash them, obviously.
A proper TTH meet.
Where do i send another 100£?
At least Thread of the Year is wrapped up early.
I can't see it beating the archived Coronavirus thread.
Are you well lad?
He picked a great time to vanish
My money would be on the first one being a genuine failure, and then the second was after he seen how easy it was to get people to send him money.
It's been a week. I hope he's necked himself.
I hope we get a picture of him from Jamaica with a 'Hi TTH' sign.
Wifi is spotty on the beach and the roaming costs are too costly even for Mellin.
I meant Jamaica, Queens.
I don't really think he pinched it all. I just think he got a bit deluded.
I'm a twit
Dont gamble what you can't afford to lose.
Look at it as paid for entertainment. I don't know what dough was thrown in but if we assume it's £200, that's pretty much a day out at the match. There was probs more entertainment with mellin than the football.
Bazbot
This is exactly right. It was always going to be a gamble. I'm in a lucky position in life where £200 doesn't mean an awful lot to me so this was worth a go for the lols. And it was quality entertainment, I would congratulate Mellberg for that and sometimes entertainment has a cost. Some of the reactions in this thread have been over the top.
It was definitely not entertaining.
Agree 100% with Phonics on that, other than the initial rush there was barely any entertainment whatsoever.
Has he done himself in?
Yeah, it was a bigger let down in the entertainment department than in the get rich department, and that is saying something.
I don't think it's enough money (6-8k?) to be worth waking up every day feeling like a scumbag.
Does anyone really care that it wasn't "entertaining"?
It was a low-stakes, long-shot punt on making money and everyone involved knew that. I (and I imagine most of us) gave the lad £100. It's nowhere near enough to expect him to perform like some sort of dancing bear on demand. He wasn't managing your fucking pension fund.
He probably hasn't been back in because the over-reaction and subsequent pile-on in here since it failed has gotten a bit silly. Somebody specifically brought up the fact that he had been to prison in the past, for fucks sake. I wouldn't want to engage with shit like that either, to be perfectly honest.
Yeah, probably time to get over it lads.
Baz's Bot though.
I don’t care that it wasn’t entertaining, I’m just saying it wasn’t in response to the thread of the year people, who’ve run mad.
