First day at new job and the work laptop didn't arrive in time.
First scheduled hour of the day? "Setting up the laptop with IT".
Good start.
I'm setting up a project to tentatively start in July and I've just been quoted March 2023 for delivery of critical equipment.
Resigned today. Feels good.
From the whole shebang or just from that gig?
Well, now you can be as sexist as you want.
I had a few things internally that were potentials but decided to just take a clean cut. It'll be quite a difference moving to a company with <2000 people rather >80000 and it's remote first so I can do no work/occasionally travel to HQ in Berlin to work with my team as well.
What I learned in Germany as well is they have no explicit rules on "bullying" so you're basically screwed.
So much for those workers' rights the EU is all about eh?
Contacted about a job at Paramount and one for the people who do all of BT Sports inhouse graphics.
Let's hope. They were doing background checks on salary expectations and right to work etc.
Speaking of though, does anyone else feel that job people asking salary expectations prior to being offered the job is kind of bullshit. Like you have no idea if you're massively undercutting yourself or if you're actually ruining your chance at a job by over expecting even if you were willing to take less.
Yes it is bullshit. But don't let that stop you going big to start with. I gave a figure for my current job expecting them to negotiate me down and they went for it. Rookie error.
I just said what my salary is and said that's par. The new company offered about 10% better and I'm waiting on another offer. I'm sure I could have asked for more but I'm actually happy with where I'm at.
Same here, when I took this job about 4 years ago I just named my price and he bit my hand off, should have said Ł3 billion a day.
I'm quite fortunate that junior solicitor salaries are actually quite transparent. Nearly all firms publish their salaries for newly qualified solicitors and then you just extrapolate and compare to your existing salary.
In contrast, being asked to give an expected salary in a sector where there's little transparency is a shitty practice.
I lived in a country that had an average salary of 65k a year for the last decade so the figures dont really line up.
More is always better anyway.
It's all relative though because the price of things will also be high.
I remember seeing something about Bermuda on TV a while back. Their average wage was 70 grand a year or something, but a 2 bed apartment was about 5 grand a month so they're no better off in real terms.
Yeah but for Kiko, if you can get more then get more. You cant be happy with what youre getting if you can get more for the same thing in the same place.
Definitely. I was also conscious of not pricing myself out so what I've been offered is good considering it helps me move out of the shit role.
Can't see any payrise covering getting donned out of your big Germany job by Irma Grese. The shame of it.
It's always tough when you've never been told no before in your life.
Nein
Went to talk to the MD yesterday about something else, he dropped in that we'll be moving to flexi time soon.
This is like Mr Banks buying the kids an ounce of weed each.
Ive got a new job in work. Its billed as a promotion but its really only for someone elses benefit. Not sure what to do about it but what I want to do is just not take it and stay as I am. Doing that normally just stamps someones ticket out the door in the end up though.
Look at him showing off his custom smileys while the common folk is stuck with the default ones.
Answer him, @Pepe.
My great grandfather (not sure how many generations up) was the brother of a former president (who got killed 15 months into the job. Mexico lol). Not that I knew anyone from that side of the family, apart from my aunt who killed herself.
Notice period in. Manager offered a shorter period which was very kind but decided that I'll ride out the the next 10 weeks and take the accrued holiday while doing not very much in the mean time.
Man, they really wanted you out.
All the work dried up because of this mediation process so I had basically already handed over. There's no real reason to stay that long over than I want paid holiday.
Are you staying in Germany?
Yeah. The likely new job hq is Berlin but they're going to be pushing for remote first so I'll just commute once a month.
Where are you now? I'm going to Germany in a couple of months
You're deifntely well off out of that whole setup though. She sounds like a head case.
Hopefully the bullshit doesn't follow you.
Giggles / Kiko meeting up for a couple of informals.
There's a Netflix series waiting to be made.
The old man's gone soft.
That happens with age, I suppose.
