Made for Yev and Giggles.
None of mine are particularly trendy.
Gavin Webber's cheese making channel.
Cracking the cryptic.
There is only one: https://youtube.com/channel/UC_3pplzbKMZsP5zBH_6SVJQ
I'm a twit
Cracking the cryptic just makes me feel horribly inadequate.
Real civil engineer.
Wirtual.
Bit of explanation please gents.
I got into The Critical Drinker lately - https://www.youtube.com/c/TheCriticalDrinker
If you haven't heard of him he reviews and comments on movies. There's a bit too much whinging about STRONG FEMALE CHARACTERS, but he does make some decent points in and outside of that.
Might be a novelty thing, I'll know in a month or so I'd imagine.
Gavin Webber's cheese making channel - man makes cheese
Cracking the cryptic - man does sudoku
Real civil engineer - man builds bridges
Wirtual - man talks about history of trackmania nations forever
You could link them too. What am I meant to do, go and search for them like some sort of neanderthal?
Body's YouTube channel - man searches for YouTube channels
I honestly thought following Youtubers/channels was for school aged children. I've never felt so out of touch.
I did so too SvN, but there's genuinely a lot of well made stuff on there.
Yep. I can't think of a specific example right now, but sometimes you come across stuff that's so good, pure and original that basically everything factual on TV is exposed in your mind for the dull corporate plod that it is.
The one thing I'll say is that as with podcasts, Americans need a fucking editor.
As the modern man I am, I suscribed to Fifa tv as they had the most convinient set of highlights for the futsal world cup. Would probably follow channels that have football highlights available for the leagues I follow. Would be more convenient than looking for goals in reddit.
I too am still somewhat in the out of touch group and have not ever thought of following a ‘random’ person's channel.
Geowizard - geography based fun
B1M - if you like construction/infrastructure
I'm not Norm - Norm Macdonald appreciation
Lewis Spears - Aussie comedian
Lock Picking Lawyer - Bosnian Bill appreciation channel
SciManDan - takes this piss out of flat earthers, not as good as it used to be
Tom Scott - obvs
CGPGrey - obvs
City Beautiful - infrastructure/urban/city planning
Wendover / RealLifeLore / Kurzgesagt - generally interesting educational videos
Tom the Taxi Driver - taxi driver in London
Phillip DeFranco - news channel I've probably been watching daily for over 10 years
Squirrel - plays simulations games (town building / trains / trucks)
My Mechanics - Old tool restoration
Martin Zero - northern UK based explorer/historian
I didn't think a thread like this would be how we separate the nerds from the cool kids, but here we are.
I'm eating lunch with SvN from now on.
The Cycling GK
I dont think it was ever in doubt but Ben Foster is a top (top, top) man.
Yeah, there's a bit too much of that in the circles he rolls with. Mauler, HeelvsBabyFace, etc.
He is a clever guy but leaning in to the character makes him more money than his novels ever did so I think he will keep doing it. Fair play to him though, better than working for a living.
I don't know if he's joined the dots on this, but watching a load of his stuff has made me realise that Hollywood execs have completely missed the point on why we liked male heroes in the films of years gone by. It wasn't because they were men, it was because they were interesting. Ergo, you can't just stick a Woman or an ethnic minority in a lead role and that be enough. Particularly not when they're as badly written, cast or acted as some of the characters have been over the last 10/15 years.
Rey Skywalker being the biggest example I can think of that crime, currently.
Legend of Total War, if, you know, you like total war games (or mostly just Total War Warhammer at this point) and/or mardy Australians. Henry Cavill's a fan Offy.
I don't mind the odd Spiffing Brit video every now and then.
I assume 'Legend' is not the same one that used to do Medieval 2 vids, he'd be cancelled in an instant these days.
There are loads, aren't there. Emilia Clarke being cast as a shoddily written Sarah Connor might be my favourite, partly because I'm more invested in that franchise but mainly because it took a genuinely interesting STRONG FEMALE CHARACTER, that was created while there was supposedly a problem, was in two blockbuster movies generally nailing shit, and utterly ruined her.
I've only watched the Force Awakens of the new Star Wars lot and didn't bother with the others, but having seen some of the reviews, oh my, how do you mess up a franchise that much? Doctor Who seems to have been similarly shafted, but I don't much care for that either.
Daisy Ridley and Emilia Clarke are just supremely boring.
Jodie Whittaker is a good actress who's just been handed some shite to work with. She won't be the first in that role and she won't be the last, of any gender. Plus it's a woman so there is a small core of the grumps who'd already decided they weren't going to like.it, just as they will if they make the Doctor black or gay.
If anything in Doctor Who they didn't have enough fun with the fact that this character is now suddenly a woman after however many years.
The bit of Doctor Who that made me laugh the most that I saw was an episode with a bad guy that had basically been written as Donald Trump. I mean, that absolute shithouse was shithousing around the real World enough at the time, why in the fuck would anyone want to watch an episode of light entertainment with him in as well? And more to the point, how in the fuck did anyone think "I know what'll make for great tv!" and not be told, "are you out of your fucking mind?".
Yeah that whole episode was wank but LOOK AT ALL THIS SATIRE was a bit cringeworthy.
It's sort of happened by stealth, but I at least had no idea how much stuff was out there offering satirical social commentary or trying to cure the World's ills.
We need a campaign to bring back high concept ideas like Big, Twins or Brewster's Millions.
Good news then, Triplets is on the way.
It would be nice if there were some original ideas.
Just not sure how Hollywood have finished films already.
Chainbear is good for F1 stuff
I mainly follow interesting food-related YouTubers:
Wang Gang - Chinese professional chef who does instruction videos on classic Chinese dishes, with a bent towards the Sichuan canon
Chinese Cooking Demystified - Is a bit what it says on the tin. American guy and his Chinese wife living in China, teaching you how to make Chinese food (generally with good insight in how to substitute stuff you can’t find outside of China)
Italia Squisita - Super well known Italian chefs. It started as a page to lol at dumb Americans and Brits ruining Italian food, but now it’s more instructional. They do a good series where they present “basic and gourmet” versions of the same dish.
He’d actually be called Gang Wang over here, and somehow that’s worse.
I've just clicked on a random Wang Gang video and inside 80 seconds he's chopping Spam with a fucking meat cleaver.
American soft power.
I like Khin's Kitchen for short recipes and ideas (the Firecracker Chicken is excellent); Billispeaks because I'm fascinated to work out if this woman has taught her cat to talk with buttons or if it just pushes them at random; MEpearlA because sometimes a mad old lady talking about possums is just what you need, and Dr Hightower because while he is a bit of a twat he often has interesting people to work on.
Wang Gang is a fucking stud
Agadmator - man talks about chess
Alvin Zhou - man takes a week to bake a cake
Beard meets food - man eats a week's worth of cake in 10 minutes
Some that haven't been mentioned yet:
Ashens: Great for a dive into shit products as well as food that really shouldn't be consumed by anyone
BeardMeatsFood: A man with an incredible beard who can pack away copious amounts of food
No More Jockeys: A terrific lockdown game from Tim Key, Mark Watson and Alex Horne
Steve1989MREInfo: Eats MRE's (usually those that are well out of date), is also very knowledgable about the history of MRE's.
Edit: RL knows, even if he can't spell the guys name right.
Tonetta777 - man makes unusual music
We’d have cured cancer if SteveMRE1989 had directed his Asperger’s towards medical research instead of collecting and consuming 50 year old, freeze-dried corned beef flecks.
