Go kick the tires of all of them and buy the one with the less sketchy looking seller.

The Mazda 6 is the boring option, but it will probably be the cheapest to maintain in the long run, especially with the low miles. With the BMWs they are going to rip you off every time any repair is needed. Might be similar with the Volvo, but the S60 is cool. I have never dealt with diesel, so probably best to ignore my opinion, but I wouldn't worry about it, they tend to be solid.

I'm sure it would be fun for others watching me try to get into one of those.

In Volvo related chat, after getting a large pay rise and finally getting the 7 series punted, I fancy some barge motoring without the hassle of old cars and am getting a Volvo S90 on lease.

I've always wanted a heated steering wheel.

£273 a month on an 8k mile p/a policy (24 months). Was cheaper doing that and paying the excess miles instead of having 10k as the mileage.

    I've got the Volvo.

Had a test drive and it was lovely. Looks filthy good too.

Will be ready in like an hour.

I've never minded Volvos before but their latest offerings have a genuine want factor for me now. Prefer the shape of the V90 estate but at this price it's hard to complain!

Why the facination with huge cars?

Mahows car is pretty tasty, better than the base level model bmws. They look too plastic for me. If you want a 3 series, get a proper one.

So my housemate has recently started learning to drive, and her Dad got her a car yesterday, however this morning she's been given a ticket for parking in one of the visitor spaces outside our flat without a permit. About a month ago some private parking signs went up, despite her having lived here for something like 5yrs & it always having been allocated parking outside our flats, and there's nothing on the signs to explain how you obtain a permit.

It seems like every car parked without a permit in our part of the bay has been ticketed, even the ones who have parked in their allocated spaces the same way they always have. I've said to her she should email our letting agents & the building management to confirm whether this is something that they can actually do, as we think the allocated parking space is part of the contract we signed, and I've also suggested she speaks to the other people in the building & goes to Citizens Advice, but does anyone else have any ideas how to go about challenging this?

I meant geographically, keep your shamrock hat on.

If they're all commuting to the centre then it's the worst road system imaginable.

The M50 was built as a ring road with no forward planning at all. Now it's just a road that's in Dublin.

Some going to the middle of the city but most going to industrial areas that are based in various locations close to the "ring road".

    Had this delivered on Friday-

So much kit. Adaptive cruise control is the dog's bollocks and the thing can steer itself when the road markings are clear enough. Being able to start it from my phone on an icy morning and have the heated seats, wheel and screens on will be bliss.

Does not feel any smaller than the 7 series it replaces though, will save the Clio for trips into the city centre from now on I think.

No got it on a 24 month PCH deal from Bells Volvo in Northampton.

Payments are 24 x £273 so no big sums needed for initial payments etc. appealed a lot.

I never use cruise control either. Also, I used to drive a Prius once in a while which had some lane assist shit and it was awful. Piece of crap was beeping all the time.

I use cruise control all the time in cars, I'll use adaptive cruise control even more though. Will be perfect where cruise control was limited - single carriageway 60's in heavy traffic when the lead car constantly fluctuates 5mph like a nonce.

Maybe my foot and ankle are more prone to aching than most but I couldn't do without it on a daily driver.

    That's nice for Scotland man.

At least everything doesn't look damp/grey/miserable.

Granted, my main frame of reference is Bellshill and Cumbernauld, so perhaps that's a bit unfair on a nation as a whole, but I'm not sure.

    +1

However, my Neon has a built-in fire extinguisher, a red button that says 100+ octane, and "Objects in mirror are losing" written on the rearview mirror, so that should put it firmly on the #2 spot.
