He's just not the player they need him to be, especially at the price. He was never going to be.
He's just not the player they need him to be, especially at the price. He was never going to be.
It's weird that in hindsight the money spent on him means even less than it did at the time.
They were basically saying:
a) his 'illness' yesterday was clearly bullshit and there's clearly some problem between him and Mourinho
b) he is being far too overindulged with regard what position he plays, and they made the comparison that could you imagine Keane, Vieira, Souness etc saying 'ooh I need to play on the left of a 4-3-3'. They then blamed Woodward and his equivalents at other clubs basically encouraging certain players to believe they are bigger than the club with all the social media and marketing bullshit.
Especially on the second point I fully agree.
Mourinho has replied specifically to the tactical stuff which seems unlike him. Wouldn't he usually just call Jamie Redknapp a muttonhead and move on? Something like the Ferguson "He's a fucking great player. You're all fucking idiots."
@Jimmy Floyd
Is there a point that those players in point b) weren't playing when everything was so tediously rigid, tactically? That's both a minor exaggeration and a genuine question, rather than a rhetorical one.
Did ANY player back then get excused / make the excuse of not being played in the specific position they really fancied?
When players were bought from abroad and they flopped they were just a flop. There weren't (the same number of) dickheads claiming that it'd all be okay if they were being played as an enganche.
Yeah, it's not like him to get quite that into it. Though he's been on a fluctuating meltdown since his second Chelsea stint so who even knows.
@Giggles Whether or not that's the case, I wouldn't have thought that'd usually matter to Mourinho.
I seem to remember Steven Gerrard needing particular formations to get the best out of him. Frank Lampard too. And don't we all sit around now pontificating about how Paul Scholes should have been the basis of the entire England team? Sounds like a bunch of twats talking shit.
In fact literally everything you read about Paulp Ogba (with regards to matters on the pitch) was said by TTH about Gerrard a decade ago. Then Liverpool indulged him and he was arguably the best player in the country. Why the manager persists with his midfield two I have no idea, but building a 4-3-3 around him is hardly down to Twitter and money.
Quality. He's laying him out.
That's pretty good.
This is the sort of thing that's probably convincing Neymar that he can do it all alone in the Champions League by doing a bunch of tricks, and never passing to Cavani and pretty much only to his mate Alves.
The media are complicit because their only way of pulling in cash is clicks, and morons apparently want to watch Neymar play football like a performing seal against a bunch of orphans in berets.
This Wigan-Man City game has actually been good and it's set up nicely for the second half. 0-0, City dominating and Wigan with decent counters, Delph sent off just before half-time, and the two managers shouting at each other down the tunnel.
The pundits showing how big club bias they are. Complete shocker from Delph and yet they don't seem to think it worthy of a red.
I don't think it was a red, but it's not a mental decision, like they're making out.
You are not invited to the next TTH kickabout if you think that is an acceptable challenge.
lol at Danilo throwing himself all over trying to level it up.
I'd be terrified over playing the scintillating KDB against these horrible Whelan pie eating cunts.
De Bruyne is comfortably the best deliverer of a dead ball in world football at the moment. No one else within a hundred miles of him.
Fuck right off.
Absolutely laughable defending from Walker there.
Stunning defending by the 50m man.
Let it go after losing his man, nearly catching him then guessing he'll turn away from goal? Prat.
Well left.
Fucking lol if they fuck the quadruple at Wigan.
Let's hope for a 96th minute equalizer incorrectly ruled out by VAR.
This is where English football is great, Wigan just indulging in desperation and lunging here. Argies would be going down holding their face etc.
'KDB' wants to be having as many shots as possible, not trying to put these other tits in.
Ah yes Jermaine Jenas giving MoM to a guy that's touched the ball once. Excellent.
lol at playing Oasis at the final whistle too.
Pitch invasion? Fuck me. Tinpot as fuck.
Wigan
Wonderwall at the whistle has to be a piss take
Magic of the cup. Lollest thing to happen all season.
We should dampen the BIGGEST UPSET EVER hype that will no doubt start though, Wigan are good enough to be a top half Championship side.
That's grade A trolling from the stadium DJ. Magnificent stuff.
That's a yellow card for Delph
Watching it for the first time. Definite red. Excessive force.
That was fun. One of the better cup ties I can remember from the last few years.
He works hard but Danilo is comfortably Man City's worst player each time I see them.
Aguero trying to deck a Wigan cunt?
Ban the prick.
Never knew that's where Cook ended up, he'd done brilliantly here managing Sligo Rovers but hadn't heard tell of him since he left.
