Yeah, I can't shake the idea of walking into 90s adventure game tropes, however beloved Grim Fandango might be. In other news, I beat two games this weekend. Little Red Lie is a 7-hour feel good romp through middle-class financial terror and existentialism. Basically, a game you read and feel kinda sad afterwards. I like it. There's barely any player agency in it but it's well-written and presented.
Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late[st] is a Japanese 2D fighting game where I mashed my way through the story mode in 20 minutes. I don't even know how to block or activate my super but I sure know how to press square and circle a bunch.
I'm getting my #GAMINGRIG today. So hyped. Not sure what to play first.
Me, Ian and Sama (sometimes Cord as well) are playing TF2 which works on most rigs.
Rocket League? () It also depends what kind of games you would like to play.
I've got Rocket League on Switch. I'm not buying it twice.
I'm godlike at TF2, happy to join.
Lads you should see this thing. There's a fucking window to watch my graphics card logo glow. It's dumb as fuck. I love it.
Downloading TF2 and a few single player games now.
Dat Windows 10 Home, sick.
I bet two thirds of that RAM does nothing but look cool. Today I needed to break a tenner so I bought Vanquish, Red Dead and Metal Gear Rising. I am now a fan of daft Platinum.
You forget I'm a video editor by trade. I'm considering remote networking it to my work laptop and transferring the project file back and forth over the internet and I think I'd still gain a good 50% drop in rendering time.
I've fucking missed this. I've got Nioh, Bayonetta, TF2 and Divinity: Original Sin 2. PC gaming, such breadth
Ah, yes. Rendering out videos makes my PC sound like a hoover full of wasps.
Ruh-Roh. Stayed up until 2 in the morning playing Nioh and now I'm tired.
What a cool game. It's kind of like Dark Souls but it's stage based so your progression is tied to you getting through the level and your progression with weapon skills rather than souls deciding how much damage you do, crying yourself to sleep when you lose them and getting to the next bonfire. That Hi/Med/Low stance stuff is confusing so I just stay in low at all times and slash the shit out of people.
Tried Uncanny Valley as one of the free PS+ games. I might have to unsubscribe if the hitrate keeps up.
Divinity Original Sin (and 2) are even better if you have a co-op chum with suitably similar gaming time availability.
Unless you fancy it Ian, I doubt I do.
I've just finished spending 100 hours playing it so probably a bit soon for me.
The opening of Tekken 7 you play as a 10 year old Jin Kazama who gets his ass kicked by Heiachi and then you're in control of Heiachi and have to do a button combo to drop Baby Jin in a volcano.
Tekkens fucking great.
In a weird mix of this forums interests. Neymar was making a PlayerUnknowns Battlegrounds reference for a celebration last night.
Man, Darksiders is wearing thin now. Controls feel a little clunky at times. Especially when it decides it wants to be Portal near the end. Portal surfaces are clearly explained but the game still won't let you place them down.
So what did you settle on for DOS2, @phonics?
My anxiety at not making 'the right' choice has destroyed my ability to play through the game. I've played that mission on the boat 7 times with different combinations of choices/characters.
So I'm killing aliens in XCom 2 instead. Much more relaxing. This game runs exactly as well as it did on my old PC which is to say, not great. I wonder why this one is so janky in comparison to the original. Maybe it's an NBA 2k thing where the whole engine is running on paper clips, chewing gum and string.
As in, the "right" choice in terms of your choice of character(s)?
Just pick some and get on with it, it's an amazing game.
Picked up Monster Hunter on PS4 today.
I'll be grabbing that at some point. Preferably after a price drop.
This Monster Hunter game that everyone's losing their shit about looks bobbins.
I wasn't that keen on the beta.
I think it’s one of those ‘you get it or you dont’ games.
I don’t get it.
Its genuinely fun, the combat is satisfying and its a good laugh to play, very Japan in its style of twee Anime NPCs. I wasn't a fan of the beta either but disposable income means I buy everything.
PLUS YOU GET A CAT SIDEKICK MEET TONY AND OAP SIRJUR
I'm annoyed I skipped the betas. I've been pondering God Eater 2 or something just as a way to ease into the genre but it sounds like World's about as 'accessible' as the games might get for now.
Everything I've heard about the beta is it was only worth it for the die hards as it was essentially a couple of fights with no context, no exploring, no hub, no meaning etc.
The time limit put me off. I feel like I need the 50 minutes that the full game brings for quests.
I'll report back once into it proper, it looks lovely too and the option of graphics, detail or framerate on the Pro is a Godsend.
Also playing Wolfenstein 2 which is wonderfully old school and batshit. Plus Yakuza 0 which hit second on my favourite games of 2017, nudging Mario down to third.
Finally got around to playing Hitman and the mechanins and animations of the game still feel like its been made in 2006.
It's a clockwork diorama. That's why it works.
Monster Hunter has sold 5 million copies in 3 days, for comparison, Super Mario Odyssey has sold 9 total.
Its a brilliant game.
Nerdy arcade enthusiasts Twin Galaxies have a big problem with their big players having fabricated scores, it seems. Including Billy Mitchell.
Lads though this laptop:
Everything runs in maxed 1080 60fps or more. I am a convert fuck a console scrub I'll windmill you for days.
I'm definitely improving on the early stages of a round of PUBG. I am not farting about nearly as much as I used to while looting and I'm relatively handy at looking after myself and getting a kill or two. My biggest weaknest is any kind of engagement in big, open spaces which obviously is more important in the later rounds once you're circle-chasing.
It feels good that I am getting kills more often now though. Less of a liability in group stuff. I probably need to start making a point of landing in the busiest places to get more shootytime practice.
You going to be on tonight? I haven't played over the weekend due to a mixture of sickness/hangovers.
I have parents visiting so it depends what time they fuck off out my living room. Going to try and squeeze a game or two in just now.
Fifth place - 6 kills
I'm so close but so far.
Yeah, I'm definitely at a point where I'm closest to getting a win. Not solo, without some luck, perhaps, but certainly a group one where I'm less of a dead weight than I was when I first started.
To think I got my first Fortnite win inside about two hours.
Been playing Metroid Prime in 4k (downsample as laptop screen is only 1080) via Dolphin, what a fucking game it still is. So so good.
It never even occurred to me that Metroid Prime would be a thing I could play on PC. What a fucking trilogy. Is it two where you have all the Space Pirate logs where they're shitting their pants because they think they've got two Samus' on the go? I'm an absolute sucker for that kind of exposition and I loved that shit.
Do I remember rightly that there's a Metroid Prime 4 coming to Switch? Because if there is that might be what makes me need one.
Yeah man. The second is a belter but its a tad lacking compared to the first. Much better world building though. Also yeah, MP4 is coming to Switch, its the reason I bought my Switch! I mean you can even run Breath of the Wild on PC now:
I've got Windwaker and Twilight Princess on the go to. Both of those have texture packs. Windwaker looks gorgeous:
Yeah, I remember Echoes being my least favourite of the three but with some of the coolest ideas. Fucking loved Corruption though.
I'll need to get back into Echoes at some point. I also need to sort RetroArch out so I can configure my controller for the Gamecube stuff. The stick shifts on my controller and it makes playing on the Gamecube a little off-kilter.
