Give it a crack, there's a hell of a lot of dialogue but its stunning to look at, as ever with Park.
Watching The Monster next, by the geezer who did The Strangers.

The Monster was bang fecking average. Troubled mother and daughter end up stranded on spooky bit of forest road, and get stalked by a monster. Nothing great, not horrific. Brainless.
Diving into the Unknown - Documentary about a group of Finnish cave divers who, on their last dive, had two of their members get trapped and die. Its the story of them doing that dive again to bring their now stranded bodies back to the surface. Very, very good, and as a sport, it gets a big fuck no from me. Genuinely terrifying.
Cave diving and caving in general is absolutely fucking mental. Every possible fucking death is possible, although I would probably snuff it by shitting out my entrails at the entrance.
Arrival is seriously good.
I watched Blue Ruin this morning and thought it was excellent. I'm not articulate enough to explain why, but it all just felt so real and genuine. It reminded me of No Country For Old Men in some ways.
Jeremy Saulnier is on track to being the next big thing I reckon.
Have you seen Green Room?
@Dark Soldier, have you checked the new thing from the 'Cure' bloke?
Yeah I saw that one first and loved it, which is why I gave Blue Ruin a go.
I have got this to watch though John, dunno if you've seen it:

I'll wait for your review. I've downloaded this to watch tonight and tomorrow then I'm off to Berlin for the weekend so I'm going to set a shitload of things downloading while I'm away.
Nocturnal Animals was a strange one. Opening credits were fucking haunting.
First reaction to Arrival is that it reminded me so much of Tree of Life. I fucking hated Tree of Life. think I love this one.
Will give it a day or two before a write-up. Not sure there's enough there to discuss for a spoiler thread, but I can see this sweeping the AAs next year.
It didn't strike me as being an obvious Oscar candidate, since all the effects and performances were pretty understated (although the sound and lighting was impressive).
I saw it tonight. Absolutely loved it.
Although, on the sound,

Probably not really a spoiler but just to be sure.

You cunts. Why the fuck isn't this being released here. Seriously, are there any anti-communist/pro-anysortofdemo tones in the movie?
Isn't the cam Russian? Either way, I'm gonna wait for a decent copy - I want to enjoy it.
Arrival is really good, but not without flaws. I'm less dreading Villenueve being in charge of Blade Runner 2 now.
I've always found Blade Runner to be one of the most over-hyped films in the history of film.
Get the fuck out.
Quite happily, but then full on sci fi has never been a genre I've enjoyed, so its understandable. The same way a non-horror fanatic will declare Martyrs a gory mess.
If Henry liked that, he'll love this. Blade Runner can suck The Matrix('s?) throbbing cock.
Even Magic wouldn't suck the Matrix 2 & 3's cock.
We haven't seen how shit Blade Runner 2 will be yet.
The new Jeff Nichols work is out, Loving. So fucking stoked.
Anyone got a decent thriller they could recommend? Struggling to find anything half decent with any semblance of a plot that I've not seen. Something like Enemy of the State would be ideal.
Nothing like Enemy of the State, but The Treatment is a cracker:

Or Transpecos.
Just got back from Arrival. It lived up to the hype. Film of the year (in what has been a pretty shit year, I think).
Ended up watching The Talented Mr Ripley instead
I watched a hologram for the king. Pointless.
This is pretty good. Especially when he goes over some of the shit ones.
Has anyone seen Snowden? There is a scene early one when Snowden first meets journos in his hotel room, and the senior journo asks him "do you mind if I go look in the microwave"?
I don't get it? Was that just prearranged code for 'let me go for a walk for 10 minutes' (which he then did).
The trailer for that was so bad I refused to watch it. As soon as they had him solving a rubik's cube to show how smart he is, I'm out.
I'm almost an hour in. Its pretty shit.
Watching The Mummy on ITV 2. Rachel Weisz is so fucking hot
Arrival is like the Tree of Life? One of the worst films ever made?
I watched The Big Short yesterday. Liked it a lot and made fairly light work of some heavy subject matter.
Margot Robbie
Just saw Doctor Strange. Good movie, although most of it is extremely by-the-book, I was expecting something a bit ... stranger. The first half is extremely unoriginal, but it's good fun and the ending is quite good. Tilda Swinton is definitely the MVP of the movie for me, great performance. Cumberbatch's accent was also quite good, I thought it would bother me but actually it was fine, he was great in the movie in general.
The villain was forgettable, as usual for Marvel unfortunately, which is kind of a waste of Mads Mikkelsen. At least next year Loki should come back, he's the best villain from the Marvel universe.
Might go the pictures this week, to watch either:
Arrival
Allied
Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them
Help me out TTH. Which one? Allied looks best from the trailer.
I'm a twit
Arrival was superb, haven't seen the others.
Arrival is brilliant.
What's it about? Wiki only gives the full plot which I don't want to read in case I want to see it.
Aliens arrive on earth. People need to work out how to communicate with them. Amy Adams is a professor of linguistics and ends up being in charge of that effort. That's all I knew going in, besides that it was getting very good reviews. I wouldn't want to know any more.
I knew nothing other than the cast and the RT score.
