The new Blade Runner is good and looks great (the soundtrack also works), but it just seems a bit unnecessary.

If a film is good and looks great... isn't that sort of the point of a film anyway?
I suppose normally, but if you're resurrecting something like Blade Runner you need a really good reason. This story could have worked without having to be part of that 'universe'.
Well Ridley Scott seems to be on some sort of Classic Resurrection Crusade so I guess that's his reason.
He was already doing Prometheus so it can't be the sole reason, but I reckon his brother lobbing himself off a bridge has something to do with him bumping his output up.
The original is over-rated as fuck anyway. I've attempted it twice and bar the visuals, which are astounding for the time, its tedious.
The Mountain Between Us is decent (though nothing special) until the last half hour or so, when it devolves into something utterly, tremendously shite. What the fuck were they thinking?
Thor: Whatever is alright, but there are far too many shit attempts at humour and they get annoying after half an hour.
Dark Tower has the opposite problem. It keeps setting up jokes that never quite arrive, as though they decided in the edit that they no longer wanted to include the jokes but couldn't quite get rid of them. That would also go a little way to explaining how a film based on a series of about six books wound up coming in under ninety minutes.
Just watched London Has Fallen.
It's a load of utter nonsense but it was good fun all the same.
I mean, and I say this not having read the books but not having seen it, the nature of the film's relationship to the books plus the production history (they were at one point planning to have it be film - TV series - film - TV series - film) doesn't make it much of a surprised that it's a mess. And it sounded from what I read like they basically just cut the fuck out of it to try and make it watchable. A waste of great source material (it'd be better as a big-budget TV series than trying to put it in films) and a good cast.
Thor: Ragnarok was pretty great although I can get where Lewis is coming from. I didn't mind it but did feel that they were trying a bit too hard with the humour and could understand someone finding it a bit much.
It also doesn't help that Chris Hemsworth comedy acts like this.
Also got around to watching Icarus after seeing everyone recommend it on here so much. Well worth, great documentary.
The Villainess
The opening is astonishing and is pretty much untouchable as a sequence in cinema the past few years. There's a sequence in the middle that left me thinking "How the fuck have they done that" and the ending is a fantastic piece of work too (perhaps relying a little too much on green screen). The rest, however, is middle of the road Asian thriller.
Just about an 8/10 due to those three sequences.
Takashi Miike's latest looks suitably insane:
Ant-Man is shit.
Bronson is good, echoes of Kubrick.
I watched Wonderwoman a couple of days ago. It is fucking garbage.
I also went to see Thor: Ragnarok yesterday. It's very silly, and I can't decide if it was good or a bit naff.
EDIT: Hadn't read the page before posting, seems most people feel somewhat similar.
The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas was a bit grim.
Going to try find this to watch tonight
Documentary about a man with Aspergers who is so obsessed with trains he's repeatedly hijacked NYC public transit and followed the route like a normal driver
McCollum has been rejected for employment by MTA on numerous occasions, although he is reported to know more about the trains, schedules, procedures and rail operations than any current employeeUnion job for union men.Suggestions from his parents and autism advocates that the MTA find a way to hire McCollum in some capacity, in the manner of Frank Abagnale, are rejected by transit officials, who fear legal liability and anti-disability stigma
Reviews for Justice League are saying that it's shit.
No surprise surely?
Ugh, I was hoping that they might sort of get it right finally after Wonder Woman.
Considering Ben Affleck pretty much quit the role as soon as the movie was done, it’s safe to say it’s gonna be terrible.
So who will be batman in The Batman?
I'm a twit
Idris Elba or a lesbian.
Super Dark Times is a belter. Get it watched.
Rewatched The Martian on Netflix last night - still great. I really like Matt Damon as an actor.
12 Angry Men is so good. Probably in my top 5.
I watched it the other day again, it is great but I can't help but think Ozil was probably guilty.
Wanted something light to watch last night so chucked on bridesmaids.
Leading lady was fucking hot.
Wiig? I'd rather Byrne.
Saw O Brother, Where Art Thou for the first time last night. I think if you limit the field to films with no plot, it's the best I've ever seen.
Good Time is a little belter, you can feel the grime and muck oozing from it.
Also Stronger is out, along with mother! shortly leaking to public sites.
And that's Dunkirk out too
Breaking with the habit of a lifetime I've decided to try to remain spoiler free going into the The Last Jedi. There are allegedly info dumps of the plot doing the rounds and I'm determined not to read them.
Where are they? Might save me going if there's enough info in them.
You can go on the Jedi Council forums are there's a "spoilers allowed" discussion forum there.
Happy days. If it's only 10 days away I'd presume some of them will have seen it already.
I'm seeing it solo on the 13th.
Watched Dunkirk. That sound, the chills, the spectacle. Nolan sure knows how to make a fucking movie. Loved it.
And then Mother!
I can't process it. I'm in love with it. Its a fucking masterpiece and I'm going to watch it again right now. Its blown my fucking mind and has reminded me why I adore film as an artform. Black Swan made me adore Aronofsky, this has elevated him to the top.
Fuck me.
Dunkirk was one of those I'm grateful for having seen on a big screen. Could feel the Stuka's diving as much as I could hear them.
