Also, some people have apparently seen The Force Awakens. This dude says that it's good fun but that the plot is a bit shallow and very derivative of the old SW movies.

I imagine it would be quite derivative of previous films in the same series.

That's not a defense against violating your own internal logic and constantly breaking rules the moment they're established. It's a fucking mess, even by the standards of superhero films.

I remember there was something about Zod making him unable to breathe by fucking about with the air in the spaceship...and yet at one point he's flying through space without any issues. Generally though, it's about a dude from another planet who can save everything. I'm taking the whole thing with a pinch of salt to begin with. I just kinda turn my brain off when I'm watching that kinda thing so I don't even really notice it. That breathing thing I only considered once someone pointed it out to me.

Interesting that it's the same two people picking me up on it as it was when I first made the point about two years ago.

Got tickets for Star Wars, going on Saturday. In the meanwhile, I've downloaded a Chrome extension that warns me whenever there's a potential spoiler on a page I visit.

I'm pretty sure it just scans the page for any instances of "Star, "Wars", "Fuck you George Lucas" and other relevant words.

Yep, the TTH front page also gets a warning because of the thread about the movie. I guess it's very cautious in that it warns you about every single page that has the title on it.

Just watched The Lobster based on DS' recommendation. I thought it was great, although the first half was definitely better, and it dragged a bit during the middle. Good ending, though.

Straight Outta Compton couldn't interest me any less, but I'll grab Brooklyn.

I'm all over Room. My internet is horrific so it'll take four hours to get here, but I'm all over it.

Hopefully these are the opening trickles before the dam breaks. I think we got eight on one day around this time last year.

Is Imax just a fancier 3D?

A great performance by the kid, but I felt the film was missing something. The first chapter should have been a little shorter (though it dragging did help to set the scene), and the second half should have focused more on his mum. The final scene was quality, though.

All the Star Wars shit over the last few days put me in the mood to watch the original for the first time in years. I knew going in the effects were shoddy and there was some laughable model work involved, but what the fuck were they up to with this.

    Toggle Spoiler

At least with the effects and models they were trying to portray something they couldn't reasonably create, but just fucking bring in a few more guys in hats.
