Full backs like Alexander-Arnold and the Brazilians are the exception. Most of a full back's job (especially a right back, who doesn't possess the distinctive left foot factor of most left backs) is just running in straight lines. Gary Neville was perhaps the best runner in straight lines in the history of the game, and had a brilliant understanding of his place in a series of fantastic teams. Not a good 'footballer' though. If he was, he wouldn't have played right back.
