Once you escape the airport complex (usually the time needed for you brain to adjust to everything being different) driving on the right is a piece of piss. Even driving a manual car is fine, which I thought would be more tricky (having driven automatics in the US).

I know but Luton is only about 20 minutes away and I can get a lift for free from my Mum or a cousin.

The weather was nice, actually. It's all just so past its best around there. I would say it's out of season, but then in season it would be full of scummy Brits which is worse.

I went mainly to play golf but outside the courses there was fuck all to recommend the place.

What's golf abroad like in somewhere like Portugal? Is it really posh and fancy or is it fairly normal?

Depends what your expectations are. The courses/facilities are pretty nice and have your standard golfing dress codes, but these are essentially third world regions which need your money, so there isn't the snobbery and arseholery you get at golf clubs back home. All the clientele tend to be just middle aged blokes getting away from their wives for a weekend.

I am crap at golf (don't even play to 28 most days) and I've had three very enjoyable trips now, two to Portugal and one to La Manga.

    No.

    It's miles cheaper.

Also is there anything worse than arriving for a holiday at night time?

I hate arriving too early because I hate waking at like 4am to get a flight but yeah, arriving too late almost feels like you've wasted the day.

My mate wants to go to New York and I'm a bit worried about how much it'll cost. We'll be looking at 5-7 days and will stay in fairly cheap accommodation, while wanting to eat everything worth eating, see the things worth seeing and probably drink every night. Could somebody that has been give me a rough estimate of how much I'd need to take with me?

It used to be alright, but now our currency is a sack of shit you're looking at London prices.

A few years ago we landed at 8pm, got on the coach and had a 3 FUCKING HOUR transfer to our hotel. 11pm we got there. Treated to some bread and butter on arrival.

Never done an evening flight since and we check the transfer times now. Morning flights are great, we just stay at an airport hotel the night before.

That's a pain in the arse, then. No wonder the flights are (apparently) cheap. Might see if he fancies somewhere where we can live like kings for £20 a day.

Not including flights and accommodation I think we spent approx £1000 between two of us for 4 days.

    Yeah, this ain't happening.

I'd rather save it and do a few cities over 2/3 weeks, I think.

That was excessive to be fair. You could do it a lot cheaper by eating street food etc. We went to two restaurants a day pretty much.

There's also loads of guides on Pinterest etc for doing things on a budget.

My main interests would be eating huge sandwiches, taking the piss out of Americans and seeing how easily 'the accent' works. I imagine the latter would take up most of my money with each night out probably ranging from £50-£100 if its London prices.

To go anywhere good music wise it'll cost you more than that. From what I hear the only Hip-Hop clubs still going in NY are bottle service places where 90% of the dance floor has been replaced by tables.

Is clubbing as big in America as it is over here? I thought it was just all bars with the odd club here and there.

From what I understand there's no middle ground anymore. It's Dive Bars or expensive bars themed as Dive Bars and Clubs.

Combat Jack did a podcast with that guy El-P works with who owns a club in NY (Dipset? Defuse? Begins with a D) who said the whole things a nightmare because as soon as there's more than 5 black people in one place, the cops raid it.

Despot? I'd rather go to the dive bars, to be honest. The more expensive a place gets, the more wankers there are. Although if you slip too far down the scale the 'characters' turn into rapists.

Yeah Despot, it was a really interesting podcast with him and Sean P! as they talk about why NY Hip-Hop died out because the music scene died out and the rappers had nowhere to go to get better.

Despot isn't exactly helping by not releasing anything despite the demand being there. That's a bit shit, though. I'd kinda want to visit all the Wu-Tang places, but there's probably absolutely no point.

You can eat cheap in New York if you want and avoid the main tourist bits. You can also find cheap drinks. Hotels and accommodations are going to be the bulk of the cost.

I think its best to put it off. I'll probably only visit once and I don't want to half-arse it. Cheers for advice, all.

Cambridge was great. Weather was awesome, which helped, of course. Went 'punting' on the river, drank some Pimms, had a couple of cracking dinners. Top, top mini-break.

San Pedro del Pinatar was really nice. La Manga looked dreadful even from the air so we didn't go anywhere near.

    Up the coast was lovely.

It's pretty shit now, only fun thing worth going to are soccer games IMO. @Spoonsky

Where are you staying / what are you looking to do? There's a lot of places where you can buy textile 'extras' (aka slight manufacture fault branded goods), some great restaurants, some dece history / tourism nonsense. Give me some more context and I can fill you in. My grandmother lived for years in Beyoglu and had a small shop underneath the Galata Tower, right by the entrance.

I'm going to Italy on Wednesday morning. Flying to Bologna then the train to Siena for a couple of nights before moving back up to Florence for two. Finishing with the last two days in Bologna.

Anyone been to any of them and have any recommendations?
