    Google vs Amazon

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-42251531

In the middle of a proper business row right now with Amazon refusing to sell some of Google's products as well as fucking about with how Youtube worked on Echo. Google have responded by pulling Youtube from Amazon devices (gone from Echo and from January 1st on Fire TV) to try and force Amazon's hands.

Who wins? Unsure but right now all they're really doing is hurting customers.

I don't care as I'll never own an Amazon anything and Google sell their stuff on their own store.

They're used in some commercial situations, but they never took off consumer-side. Snapchat Spectacles are kind of a thing.

Apple are rumoured to be working on some.

They had some sort of pre-release thing, $1500 they were and there was this:

Under the Google Glass terms of service for the Glass Explorer pre-public release program, it specifically states, "You may not resell, loan, transfer, or give your device to any other person. If you resell, loan, transfer, or give your device to any other person without Google's authorization, Google reserves the right to deactivate the device, and neither you nor the unauthorized person using the device will be entitled to any refund, product support, or product warranty."

    lol.

Something has gone on anyway as they've pulled support from the Google Home, so presumably they're in bed with Amazon on this.

Everything google does seems to fail, except for the search engine and maybe google maps.

Sure google earth was cool once for ten minutes but who ever revisited it? Those glasses were a non-starter from the off. Google phone has screen burn, apparently, and will never realistically compete with Apple and Samsung - even Razer has more chance there. Echo does and will always kick Google Home’s puny arse. I’m sure there are more but they’re so rubbish I’ve forgot.

The echo is massively inferior to the GH now.

Way to totally not understand what they do also

It's true, Google seems like one of those "throw enough ideas out there and hope one succeeds" kind of companies. (Big) successes in my book are:
    Search
    Maps
    Gmail
    Android
    Youtube (if it counts)
    Photos
    Translate
    Drive
    Docs

Plus they have almost every service at huge usage levels on iOS and Windows so they're pulling in massive amounts of user data, which is always going to be priority #1.

They didn't make YT, they just bought it and have done their best to destroy what makes it good.

To be fair they've owned it for 11 years. It was only running for less than 18 months before they purchased it. They're largely responsible for what makes it good.

Is it that long? Well the point stands, they've gutted it as a viable platform for a lot of people.

Google wins. All they have to do is show Twitch off to be a haven for begging prostitutes.

So, Google decided to stop Youtube access on Amazon Fire TVs/sticks 4 days earlier than they said they would but Amazon responded by making Firefox and Silk available with a workaround to the Youtube app.

The two companies are/were apparently in 'talks' but I doubt they're going well if Youtube was pulled days before Google said they would do it.
