I'm going to get a big bottle (it's a couple of litres, I think) of Williams Brothers Nollaig to share with my brother-in-law. Might splash out for Dark Island Reserve as well.

Book for the latter (not Tolstoy obviously). Five year olds are a nightmare. Too old to like baby stuff, too young to have any interests.

Yeah, like one of those really basic numbers/letters/colours books. I was told to get one for a newborn recently so it must be legit.

    Just about within budget.

Not sure I've ever properly met an 18 month old, so not sure how thick they are.

For the latter, find out what they're obsessed with at the moment - lions, tractors, dogs, trains etc. - then, like Jimmy said, a book that makes noises and has things that pop up or wevs. Or even just a small cuddly toy. My best mate has two kids around that age and that's always been spot on. Or maybe a costume. His oldest (nearly 2) currently loves wearing a lion costume I got him, even though I got it for him last year. Ultimately, it doesn't matter cause they won't remember, but if you really want something they'll like you need to find out what basic crap they love at the moment.

That is really good, actually. Bookmarked. It'd be a wasted present this year.

Just nailed my shopping in a quick go on Amazon, booked my and the missus in for some ice skating on Boxing Day and have my gin/beers to collect and a tree to buy on Thursday. It's all coming together nicely.

Last day at work until 2017 tomorrow

I'm stuck in work til whatever point on the 23rd they decide to let us leave. In on NYE as well because they're offering double time. Visiting my folks on Christmas Eve for most of the day, though and I have plans for Christmas dinner.

I've never had Treeselets. They look like those crap crackers you get on holiday. I can't remember the name of them.

The main downside of Twiglets is your fingers look like they've been up a tramps bum after about five.

I'm all for a classic nik nak (or royster) but I fail to see how they register on the festive spectrum.

Cheese footballs are amazing. Tesco ruined their ones by making each ball smaller and harder (less fluffy).

Don't we do a 'year in review' thread at some point around this time?

Standard Christmas with the parents for me. I find the whole thing vaguely depressing for some reason and I don't know why. I go home and see my parents a few times a year and it never bothers me at other times. Not sure what it is to be honest. It might be because I'm nursing a hangover every year as basically everyone from school goes up to The White Swan for Christmas Eve and we all catch up with each other and get hammered. Not sure though.

New Year I have no plans at all. Not a clue. Something will probably happen though.
