Im pretty sure the mining up there has given them some cash. There are also a few rich Queenslanders involved in League up there as well. Historically they have always been close to QLD sporting wise as their best League and Union players have played in the State for as long as I can remember.
If they had an NRL team it would be pretty amazing, Nobody in their right mind would move there (maybe Todd Carney), so it would have to be entirely indigenous, and they would lose every game 40-12 (all three tries being length of the field efforts) but take out at least four opposition players doing so. Stanley Gene is probably still fit enough for a game as well.
