As for whether I'd get involved? For anything less than a WWII style invasion attempt, absolutely bloody not.

WW3 would be similar to the Cold War. It'd be conducted purely by proxy wars and TVs statements. If the main powers actually came to blows again we would be a smouldering crater inside a week.

I'd object to being conscripted first and foremost. And I can imagine vanishingly few scenarios that are possible in our current world which would make me want to fight.
The IRA, if it existed, would just join the other side to Britain irrespective of who was on it. Lest we forget that they actively supported Germany, as in actual Nazis, before they could bring themselves to want Britain to win.
